October 25, 2022 - Online Communication Workshop

 
As part of the FLI HS Program, Future Institute hosted an online workshop on Online Communication on October 25 at 5:30 PM Central (6:30 PM Eastern). The workshop covered the following:
  • Emailing 
    • Email Etiquette 
    • Being an empathetic communicator 
    • Emailing wisely  
  • Zoom / Video Conferencing
    • Preparing for a video conference 
    • Participating respectfully 
    • Video/audio settings tips

In this workshop, students learned to put their best foot forward when communicating via email and meeting in a video conferencing environment. Fifty FLI HS participants from high schools in Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, and Ohio attended the workshop.

Upon graduating from Illinois State University, Chris Murphy taught high school science and coached baseball in Chicago Public Schools, during which he earned Master’s degrees in education from DePaul University and Northeastern Illinois University. While serving as a principal in the Chicago suburbs, he earned his Doctorate in Education from National-Louis University with his research focused on Social Change Theory.

Dr. Murphy joined Concept Schools in 2016 and now serves as Chief Strategic Growth & Communications Officer. In this capacity, he oversees Growth & Sustainability, Marketing, Community and Media Relations, and Charter School Advocacy. He sincerely believes in the potential of all students and is committed to expanding high-quality educational opportunities for all low-income, minority students.     

He currently lives in Chicagoland with his wife, Mary, and their two middle schoolers.
