So, You Didn’t Get Into Your Dream School

College admissions are competitive. After all, if it was easy to get into college, everyone would have a degree from an Ivy League school. Still, being rejected from your dream school hurts. It’s fine to feel bad and mope around for a bit, but remember that you are smart and talented. Here are some tips for how to get over being rejected from your dream school.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO APPLY TO THIS SCHOOL?

Is it the location? The prestige? Are your family members alumni? Consider the factors then made this your dream school. Then, if you can, try to use these factors to seek out other schools that fit them.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE

If you can reapply to this school, consider going to a community college for a year. This will allow you to increase your involvement in on-campus activities and it will also enable you to pursue more job and volunteer opportunities that can boost your resume when you reapply.

DO SOMETHING FUN

Watch a movie or hang out with your friends. Do something that will let you forget about being rejected. Additionally, you can tell your friends about how you feel. They will sympathize with you and maybe one of your friends is also dealing with rejection!

REMEMBER, THE NAME OF YOUR SCHOOL ISN’T EVERYTHING

With the job market constantly changing, the school you go to is becoming less important. Instead, employers value the skills and roles you take on in college. Develop your resume, regardless of what school you go to, and make yourself a competitive job hunter and opportunity seeker.

It’s okay to feel sad, but don’t let this keep you from applying to other schools. Life goes on and success awaits you!
