Kevin McDermott currently holds the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in the Cook County Clerk’s office, an agency of Cook County, IL government. In this position he is responsible for technology strategy, technology budgeting, and information security. Mr. McDermott is also the Founder and Principle of Major Scale Technology Management, a boutique consulting firm specializing in management consulting on IT strategy, assessment, and project management. Mr. McDermott has over thirty years of management experience in the IT field, with a broad background in banking and financial services as well as experience in government, health care, manufacturing, the convention and trade show industry, and the not-for-profit world.
Mr. McDermott’s fields of study include information security, blockchain and crypto currencies, IT governance, IT risk management and portfolio management, and IT investment decision practices. He is also actively engaged in the U.S. community of Elections professionals, working to ensure public confidence in the safety and integrity of U.S. elections.
Mr. McDermott maintains an avid interest in the field of education. He has taught as an adjunct faculty member at the Robert Morris University Graduate School of Management in Chicago, IL, and at Triton College in River Grove, Illinois. He has previously served as an elected member of the Board of Education for Proviso Township IL High School District 209, and he serves on the Advisory Board of the Robert Morris Graduate School of Management.
Mr. McDermott holds a BA degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and an MBA degree from the University of California at Berkeley.
In his spare time Mr. McDermott plays bass in a local jazz band, produces and hosts a cable TV interview show (www.publicperspective.tv), and volunteers at his church and at other non-profit organizations.
